Car Keys
Car keys have changed and evolved many times over the years, early car keys were very simple when we look at them today however in their time they were a pretty good security measure. The locking steering column was developed in the late 1960's to help prevent car theft by hot wiring to bypass the car key, with the steering column locked the car can't be driven, although this added another level of security the lock could still be broken to bypass the cars security. The biggest change in car key technology was made in the mid 1990's when the transponder chip key was introduced. This type of car key has a small computer chip embedded in the plastic head of the key, each chip has a unique code that the cars computer or immobilizer system must reconize in order for the car to start, even if the lock is broken in an attempt to start the car, the immobilizer system will prevent it from starting because the system is looking for a programmed car key, This type of system has greatly reduced car theft. As these systems have evolved, many cars have incorporated the remote control to lock and unlock the car into the key, so the key has 2 separate systems in one car key. Even newer technology uses RF signals to relay transponder information from the key to the immobilizer system so the key simply has to be present in the car to start the car rather than having to put the key into a lock to start the car, locking is accomplished electronically.

This improved security and convenience does come with a cost attached to it. The transponder chip key is much more expensive than the old standard metal car key, also in most cases specialized equipment is required to program these keys to the car. The equipment is also expensive and requires ongoing software updated, license fees in some cases and numerous machines to be able to program most car keys. This means the price for a car key can be very expensive when compared to the price of the old metal car key.

Replacing lost car keys is much more expensive than it is to have a spare key made for your car. If you only have 1 key for your car we can make and program an additional one at a price that is much lower than the dealer. If you have lost your car keys and don't have a spare we do that as well. We also have many remote head and smart keys in stock and provide programming services for these types of keys too.
